A Message From Our Pastor

Welcome to Our Site

pastor

I welcome you to the Salem Baptist Church website. We are honored that you took the time to peep in on us and we do not take your visit for granted.

Here at Salem, it is my desire to lead the people of God in a traditional/contemporary (Tra-temporary) fashion. It is my job to bridge the traditional/contemporary gap through the Word of God. It is also my desire to get the traditional members to respect the future in which our contemporary brethren will lead the way and at the same time to get the contemporary to respect the rich history that has gotten Salem to this point in time. My plan is simple, it is to share with the people of God, His Word, His vision and His love for the saints. It is His love that will eternally keep us.

If you are presently without a church home, I extend to you the invitation to visit us during one of our scheduled services and I pray that the Lord will speak to your heart to become one of us.

Again I wish to thank you for looking in on us and I hope to see you soon.

Be Blessed
Be Saved
Be Encouraged

Pastor Hart

Reverend Alonzo David Hart, Jr., is the second son, fourth child of Alonzo and Mary Hart. He was born in Washington, D.C. and his formative years were spent in Statesville, N.C.

Pastor Hart was called to ministry in 1973; he was licensed to preach in 1975; and under the expert tutelage of his uncle and pastor, Bishop William F. Hart, Jr. In September 1978, Pastor Hart was ordained at the Christian Tabernacle Church and continued to develop under Bishop Hart. In 1991, Pastor Hart was called to the Peach Grove Baptist Church in Louisa, Virginia were he faithfully led the people to God for three years. After hearing from the Lord, Pastor Hart returned to Washington, D.C. and became the Assistant to Pastor Terry D. Streeter at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

On June 26, 2004, Pastor Hart was called to the Salem Baptist Church family and was installed in January of 2005. Under Pastor Hart's leadership, Salem has become a church with a fivefold ministry, the Preached Word, Prayer, Discipleship through Study, Internal Relationship and Evangelism.

Pastor Hart is a graduate of Washington Saturday College at Howard University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Religious Education and was voted class president. Pastor Hart also received a Master of Divinity Degree from Faith Bible College and Seminary. He is also a Certified Counselor and has earned his teacher's certification from the International Teachers Training Association. He is a member of the Clergy and Medical Community Fellowship at Howard University, a founding member of the Poplars Community Watch Group, received the 12th Man Award from the Largo High School football team and a highly sorted conference speaker, preacher and singer. Also, he was recently signed by Kingdom Records for future recordings, an area that he excelled in during his high school years with a local group called The Stridells and Curtom Records, which Curtis Mayfield was the owner/producer.

Pastor Hart is married to the former Cheryl D. Johnson and they are the parents of three wonderful daughters and one son.

In his endeavor to spread the gospel, Pastor Hart echoes the sentiment of the Apostle Paul as recorded in First Corinthians 9:16 "For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel."
